Quick Pitch / Info

• Parry is a head-to-head card dueler where two knights try to toss their opponent from the arena. It’s a game that’s more about reading your opponent than the cards, and feels like tug of war combined with 4-dimensional rock, paper, scissors to play.
  • Optional Add-on: It’s part programming, part deduction, and part ruining your opponent’s plans.
• 2 Players | 10-20 minutes (best played in 4 game matches, 5 min per game) | Ages 12+
• Designed by Giant Leap Games (Cam Gilbreath, Chris Simmerman, Matt Roper)

Theme Description

• Two knights from two kingdoms meet on the tournament field to settle things the way old friends always have: by knocking each other flat in front of a delighted crowd of deranged marginalia, rendered like a gloriously unserious illuminated manuscript. Parry turns the people you know best into your most dangerous opponents. For this duel we’ll harken back to the pettiest way to settle an old rivalry… Best of four?

Mechanics Description

• Parry is a two-player, head-to-head card dueler where you try to knock your opponent clean out of the arena. Each round, one of you secretly lays down a pattern of five cards while the other answers in kind, then you reveal them one at a time. Everything hinges on what you think the other will do. If the defender matches their opponent's card, it’s a Parry: the roles flip, the momentum swings, and suddenly the other player is the one on the back foot. Card sequences centered on repeating crests land the blows that push your knight back and forth across the arena, while once-per-round bluffs, feints, and predictions reward anyone who can get inside their opponent's head. A duel runs about 5 minutes once you learn to play, quick enough to play as a best-of-four match, which is tracked via game-to-game scoring, and turns a single bout into a proper series. It plays like a tug of war crossed with four-dimensional rock-paper-scissors, and is more about reading the person across the table than the cards in your hand.
